Various places in the hilly region of the county have witnessed light snowfall following a brief shower last night. Temperature has plummeted in capital Kathmandu and other parts of the country, Thursday.

Pushpalal highway has been blocked due to snowfall in Kharidhunga of Dolakha. Buses from Jiri and Charikot have been stranded at Kharidhunga, while those from Kathmandu have been stranded at Mudhe, Sindhupalchok as a thick pile of snow has accumulated on the road. Reports say, three feet snow has accumulated on the road.

Likewise, reports say, snowfall has started in the mid-hills of eastern region including upper parts of Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha and Dhankuta. The area witnessed a snowfall after a gap of four years.

Places like Shrijung, Basantapur and upper parts of Dhankuta including Chitre and Sidhuwa have been covered with snow. People from Dharan, Biratnagar and other parts of eastern Terai have thronged Dhankuta to play with the snow.

Meteorologists have said, the weather will continue to be chilly for the next new days. They have forecast brief showers and snowfall in the mid and eastern hilly region this afternoon. 

Meanwhile, at least half-dozen person have died due to extreme cold in Sarlahi, Siraha and Rupandehi. nepalnews.com
